Mr. Fry first joined Sutter Health in 1982 as an administrative resident. He climbed through the ranks, eventually becoming the executive vice president and COO before he was named president and CEO.
As CEO, Mr. Fry has led Sutter Health towards providing its own health management organization, among other accomplishments. In 2012, Sutter filed for a Knox-Keene License, which will allow the system to offer a Sutter-operated and sponsored health plan. “Offering a health plan enables us to partner directly with patients to manage their total health needs, including their ongoing care experience and the total quality and cost of their care,” Mr. Fry explained in a statement.
Along with his duties leading the health system and developing a HMO, Mr. Fry is involved in the healthcare community at large. He is a past chair of the California Hospital Association board of directors and has served on the American Hospital Association’s governing council and American Hospital Association’s regional policy board. Additionally, he has chaired the board of directors of VHA, a national network of non-profit hospitals that works to improve clinical efficiency and performance.
Mr. Fry has been recognized for his history of leadership at Sutter Health. Becker’s Hospital Review named him to its 2012 list of 300 Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know. He was also named as Sacramento Business Journal’s 2012 Executive of the Year.
Mr. Fry earned a master’s degree in health services administration from George Washington University in Washington, DC.
