Boston Children’s Hospital. The 404-bed Boston Children’s Hospital is one of the largest pediatric medical centers in the United States. The hospital sees approximately 25,000 inpatient admissions every year. In 2016, surgeons at the hospital performed more than 26,500 procedures. For 2016-17, U.S. News & World Report ranked Boston Children’s Hospital the No. 1 children’s hospital in the U.S. In 1954, Boston Children’s researcher John Enders, PhD, and colleagues were awarded the Nobel Prize for culturing the polio virus, which facilitated Jonas Salk and Albert Sabin’s vaccine creation.
