The board guides the director of the National Cancer Institute regarding the national cancer research program. It will complement the Cancer Moonshot initiative and ensure the Biden administration is invested in research and development that will help advance breakthroughs in the prevention, detection and treatment of cancer.
Biden intends to add four new members to the board, including two oncologists:
- Callisia Clarke, MD, division chief of surgical oncology at Milwaukee-based Medical College of Wisconsin and president of the Association for Academic Surgery.
- Edjah Nduom, MD, Daniel Louis Barrow Endowed Chair and associate professor in neurosurgery at Atlanta-based Emory University School of Medicine.
The board will also welcome Karen Emmons, PhD, professor of social and behavioral science at the Boston-based Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health; and Tamika Felder, founder of the nonprofit Cervivor.
