Cancer is one of the most expensive diseases to treat. Individuals who receive diagnoses of female breast, colorectal, lung and prostate cancers are among the most expensive, according to data from the National Cancer Institute.
In that same vein, the newly unveiled American Oncology Cares Foundation will support patients in need with other essential living expenses like rent, groceries or a car payment, for instance.
“Our goal is to alleviate some of the financial burden associated with essential living expenses so that patients can refocus on what really matters — their health journey,” Todd Schonherz, CEO of American Oncology Network, said in the release.
To qualify for possible financial assistance from the foundation, patients must be 18, actively being treated for cancer, have a household income that is at 200% or more below U.S. federal poverty levels; and live in a state where a participating AON center is located.
