Shriners Twin Cities, Boys Town Hospital partner on telehealth services

Minneapolis-based Shriners Healthcare for Children – Twin Cities is partnering with Boys Town (Neb.) National Research Hospital to provide telehealth consultations for patients who live hours away from Shriners facilities, World-Herald reports.

Boys Town hospital will serve as Shriners Minneapolis' first telehealth site within its service territory, according to the report.

Shriners patients will be able to go to Boys Town for some routine check ups, during which Boys Town clinicians will virtually connect with Shriners providers. The hospitals will use high-speed internet and digital tools including hand-held cameras, digital stethoscopes and dermascopes, for the patient examinations. During appointments, Shriners clinicians will be able to virtually check how patients' incisions are healing as well as monitor joint motion, among other abilities.

Additionally, some Shriners orthopedic specialists will begin traveling to Boys Town regularly in September to lead in-person clinics, according to the report.
