The program would provide hospitals a discount of at least 10 percent, with the possibility of up to a 40 percent discount, based on the volume of the drugs purchased each quarter. The program will be offered through hospitals’ group purchasing organizations or Valeant’s customer service department.
The pharmaceutical giant has been under fire since it raised the price of Isuprel by 720 percent and the price of Nitropress by 310 percent, according to Reuters. Valeant is under investigation by the U.S. Senate for inflating prices, according to the report.
The rebates come after the pharmaceutical giant pledged in February to Congress it would offer price breaks on the drugs, but it faced additional criticism when it failed to follow through in a timely fashion.
