Here are four things to know.
1. The Pittsburgh Revolution Fund seeks to raise $200 million, which it plans to invest in drug research teams at the university who are looking to create their own companies.
2. The university’s Drug Discovery Institute will collaborate with the revolution fund to create medications using quantitative systems pharmacology. The method relies on interactive computer models to predict how experimental drugs may affect the progression of various diseases, reports Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
3. Researchers will focus on developing treatments for breast cancer, neurodegenerative diseases and some liver diseases, according to the report.
4. The Revolution Fund hopes to offer its first grant in early 2018.
