The project began as an effort to update the hospital, but after hospital officials determined that updating the current facilities would be difficult due to the age of the original building, construction of the new wing began.
Sonoma Valley Hospital’s new emergency department is three times larger than the old space, at 6,500 square feet. The new surgery center is about 20 percent larger than the old center, at 5,657 square feet, according to the report.
