Siemens Healthineers debuted the Accela radiotherapy system Sept. 27 at the American Society for Radiation Oncology’s annual meeting in Boston.
The system — which is pending FDA clearance — can deliver stereotactic body radiation therapy to multiple sites in about one minute, according to a Sept. 27 news release from Siemens.
Accela also includes AI-powered software to help physicians design treatment plans, the release said.
A group of U.S. cancer centers provided input to Siemens during development: Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic, St. Louis-based Washington University School of Medicine Siteman Cancer Center, Seidman Cancer Center at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, Boston-based Mass General Brigham Cancer Center and New York City-based Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
