Here are four things to know.
1. Drugmakers are prohibited from charging the VA more than a maximum amount — or federal ceiling price — for covered drugs under the Veterans Health Care Act.
2. Swiftwater, Pa.-based Sanofi Pasteur informed the VA it miscalculated the federal ceiling price for various drugs from 2002 to 2011, thereby overcharging the VA, according to the DOJ.
3. Along with paying the $19.8 million settlement amount, Sanofi Pasteur agreed not to pursue reimbursement claims for the sale of drugs it undercharged the VA for due to the miscalculation.
4. Sanofi Pasteur “cooperated fully and negotiated in good faith with the government,” a company spokeswoman told Reuters via email.
