Health systems should prepare for shifting MedSurg demand in 2027, according to a new Vizient outlook. The report, published July 27, says evolving care delivery models, treatment pathways and supply chain pressures are changing how organizations should forecast demand and plan sourcing strategies.

- Inflation outlook: Medical and surgical products are projected to see 3.05% inflation in 2027. Medical supplies are projected at 3.21%, while surgical supplies are projected at 2.62%.
- Demand drivers: Vizient cites care migration to ambulatory, clinic and home-based settings, pharmaceutical innovation, nonoperative treatment pathways, geopolitical uncertainty, tariffs and raw material volatility.
- Why it matters: Historical utilization patterns are becoming less reliable predictors of future demand as care shifts beyond hospitals.
- Recommendations: Vizient recommends four priorities for health systems, including, improve demand visibility, align supply planning with clinical change, strengthen supply resiliency and coordinate planning across clinical, supply chain, operational and financial leaders.
