Medical Device Leaders Optimistic About Future of Industry

Emergo Group, a global medical device consulting group, released an outlook report that shows medical device industry professionals around the globe are generally optimistic about the future of the industry, according to a Bionews Texas report.

The Asia-Pacific region showed the highest degree of optimism, with 30.6 percent of respondents saying they had "very positive" views for the future.

The North and South America region and Europe, Middle East and Africa region were "cautiously optimistic," indicating a "somewhat positive" view, at 47.7 percent and 56.7 percent, respectively.

The respective levels of optimism may be linked to sales patterns in 2013, according to Emergo. Fifteen percent of Asia-Pacific device professionals reported sales increased by more than 20 percent in 2013, compared to 11.2 percent of North and South America and 12.5 percent of EMEA.

Of the companies that disclosed sales data, the majority of North and South America, 21.6 percent, reported sales increases less than 10 percent.

However, less than 16 percent of all respondents had a neutral or negative outlook for 2014, suggesting that the industry is not too concerned with slow growth or the effects of the U.S. medical device tax, according to the report.
