During cataract surgery, clinicians remove the eye’s natural lens and replace it with an artificial lens. While most intraocular lenses are monofocal — only allowing people to see clearly at a distance — the Tecnis Symfony lens provides patients with a full range of vision.
The lens is approved for patients with presbyopia — the loss of ability to focus on close up objects — and astigmatism, which causes blurry or distorted vision.
Abbott did not say when it expected to launch the new lenses.
