DHL suspends high-value shipments to US amid tariffs

DHL Express announced a temporary suspension of business-to-consumer shipments valued over $800 to private individuals in the U.S., effective April 21.

The move is in response to the new U.S. Customs and Border Protection regulations that reduce the threshold for formal entry processing from $2,500 to $800 as of April 5, according to a news release from the company.

The company also cited a surge in formal customs clearances triggered by the policy shift which has significantly slowed processing times. DHL warned that high-value shipments, regardless of their origin, may face multiday delays.

The announcement follows recent tensions surrounding U.S. trade policy, especially toward shipments from China.

“This is a temporary measure,” DHL stated, adding it would provide updates as the situation evolves.
