Automated clinical microbiology device earns FDA approval

Clever Culture Systems earned Food and Drug Administration approval for its Automated Plate Assessment System.

APAS is an artificial intelligence technology that automates the imaging, analysis, interpretation and reporting of microbiology culture plates after incubation, according to a news release. The system allows for a faster diagnosis of infectious diseases.

"We believe APAS technology is going to make a significant difference to the efficiency of microbiology laboratories globally," said Peter Bradley, general manger of Zurich-based Clever Culture Systems.

Clever Culture Systems will launch APAS in 2017.
