Aluminum, steel tariffs expected to impact medical devices

The Trump administration’s decision to impose a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum imports is expected to impact the medical device industry.

According to the American Hospital Association, steel and aluminum are essential materials in the production of a range of medical devices, including surgical instruments, prosthetics, implants, crutches, wheelchairs, plates and screws. 

The White House said in a Feb. 11 fact sheet that measures aim “to protect America’s critical steel and aluminum industries, which have been harmed by unfair trade practices and global excess capacity.”
