Here are the six latest medical devices or drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

  1. Abbott Laboratories, based in Abbott Park, Ill., created a fully dissolvable heart stent to treat patients with coronary artery disease.

  2. Syndros is a new oral drug used to treat aids symptoms and chemo side effects.

  3. Prism Medical & Design, based in Coral Springs, Fla., developed the ProteXsureSafety Capsule System to prevent needle sticks.

  4. Tobramycin is a new injectable medication used to treat serious bacterial infections.

  5. Switzerland-based Roche created the Roche cobas HPV Test to detect human papillomavirus.

  6. Ethacrynic acid tablets are a potent diuretic intended for the treatment of edema.
