A Medline distribution facility in Tracy, Calif., was destroyed June 11 in a fire that prompted evacuations of neighboring warehouses and a local state of emergency, NBC affiliate KNTV reported.
The blaze engulfed the approximately 1 million-square-foot facility after firefighters responded to a roof fire just before 1 p.m. No injuries were reported.
Officials told KNTV early firefighting efforts were hindered by a failure of the building’s private fire water system. High winds, low humidity and elevated temperatures contributed to the fire’s spread through the facility.
A neighboring FedEx warehouse was evacuated, and authorities said a separate fire broke out there around 7 p.m., burning pallets and multiple big-rig trailers. Firefighters contained the blaze before it spread through the building, according to the report.
