Jackson Medical Mall, in partnership with University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, is planning to build a healthcare corridor that would be a “destination for people from across the southeastern United States in need of health care,” according to the report.
While Jackson Medical Mall and UMMC first planned for the area to encompass space between Interstates 55 and 220, Gov. Phil Bryant suggested the corridor stretch from the Jackson-Evers International Airport to the Jackson Municipal Airport at Hawkins Field.
Under the Mississippi Health Care Industry Zone Act passed last spring, the Mississippi Development Authority can assign healthcare zones — such as the corridor — in which certain businesses will be eligible for tax breaks and incentives, according to the report.
