"Cheat Death:" CaroMont's New Slogan Launches Community Health Campaign

Gastonia, N.C.-based CaroMont Health has announced the new name of Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia and CaroMont's new slogan.

Gaston Memorial will now be called CaroMont Regional Medical Center. The system decided to change the hospital's name to more clearly designate its relationship with CaroMont Health and because research revealed patients and staff had negative opinions on the hospital's name.

CaroMont Health also unveiled its new slogan: Cheat Death. The new slogan was inspired in part by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's recent listing of the healthiest counties in each state; Gaston County ranked 81st out of 100 counties in North Carolina. The "Cheat Death" tagline is designed to inspire and remind staff of their mission and motivate patients to prevent illness and disease, according to the release. In concordance with the tagline, CaroMont also revealed a new purpose statement: "To give every man, woman and child in Gaston County every opportunity to Cheat Death."

To work toward its goal of becoming the healthiest county in North Carolina, CaroMont will release Cheat Death kits throughout the community that will provide steps to increase the odds of living longer. The system's website will be easier to navigate and provide Cheat Death tips through social media. In addition, CaroMont will form an affiliation plan with athletic clubs to offer Cheat Death workouts, and with restaurants to offer Cheat Death specials.
