Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services launched a public dashboard July 30 tracking the state’s Rural Health Transformation Program funding.
Six notes:
1. The agency built the tool to show stakeholders and the public how transformation program dollars are distributed across the state, according to a July 30 department news release.
2. The dashboard includes three components: a map showing overall funding amounts and where partners have received awards, a facility and license-type map showing driving times to healthcare resources across Nebraska and neighboring states, and a data notes section explaining the program and underlying data sources.
3. The funding map can be filtered by geography, including county, healthcare advisory region, behavioral health region and legislative and congressional district.
4. Ashley Newmyer, the agency’s director of public health, described the tool as a “step toward transparency and responsible stewardship in how we invest in the health of Nebraskans.”
5. RHTP is a five-year federal initiative administered by CMS under HR 1. Nebraska’s award totals more than $218.5 million, funded entirely by CMS.
6. Nebraska recorded a net loss of two rural hospitals between 2001 and 2023 — one opening against three closures — and four rural hospitals in the state have closed since 2000 through June 2026, according to data from Yale University’s Health Care Affordability Lab in New Haven, Conn.
