Phoenix Children’s

Phoenix, AZ

U.S. News & World Report has ranked Phoenix Children’s among the nation’s “Best Children’s Hospitals” for 15 consecutive years, naming it the No. 1 children’s hospital in Arizona and third in the Southwest region. It is the only children’s hospital in Arizona ever recognized by the publication. The hospital is anchored by its Thomas Campus, which serves as the primary hub for the broader system’s most advanced pediatric medical care, clinical research and specialized treatments. With 920 employed and contracted physicians and advanced practice providers caring for more than 280,000 unique patients last year, Phoenix Children’s has continued expanding its footprint. Recently, the organization opened a 175,000-square-foot hospital and 45,000-square-foot specialty clinic in Glendale, Ariz., an emergency department in Avondale, Ariz., and a 44,000-square-foot level 4 neonatal intensive care unit in Phoenix, with a third pediatric hospital planned for the East Valley. Through its “WATCHER” digital surveillance program, which uses predictive algorithms and EHRs to flag hospitalized children at risk of deterioration, Phoenix Children’s has identified more than 400 children needing a higher level of care. The Phoenix Children’s Research Institute, based at the University of Arizona College of Medicine–Phoenix, now includes more than 700 active studies, 640 research investigators and 90 research staff. In 2025, it received more than $2.2 million in extramural research support, alongside more than $10.5 million in sponsored research funding for Phoenix Children’s overall. Phoenix Children’s also partnered with Amazon to add video-enabled telehealth, virtual interpretation and behavioral health access across 750 clinic rooms and emergency departments.
