States with the highest, lowest number of transplants performed

California performed the most transplants in 2023 while Vermont performed the fewest, according to Organ Procurement & Transplant Network data.

The data includes transplants for all organs through December 2023. Three states — Idaho, Wyoming and Montana — had no data available.

Here are five states with the highest and lowest number of transplants performed:

Highest

California: 5,288

Texas: 4,226

New York: 3,580

Florida: 3,302

Ohio: 2,397

 

Lowest

Vermont: 12

New Hampshire: 27

Maine: 41

South Dakota: 51

North Dakota: 62
