The report from the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4) also includes data on long-term acute care hospitals,
specialty hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals
and state hospitals.
According to the report, the number of surgery centers in Pennsylvania is growing, as are the profits of ASCs in the state.
PHC4 says that 17 new ASC opened in the state between June 2007 and May 2008, bringing the statewide total to 245.
The statewide total profit margin for ASC rose 3.9 points in fiscal year 2007 from 20.85 percent in fiscal year 2006 to 24.74 percent.
