In June, the Leapfrog group released Hospital Safety Scores for 2,652 hospitals. The scores summarized publicly available data on patient injuries, medical and medical errors and infections. Nearly half of the hospitals received a “C” or below on a scale of A, B, C, D, and F.
The American Hospital Association swiftly condemned the scores in a letter addressed to Leapfrog Group, outlining its concerns about the group’s methodology. In response, the group is allowing the hospitals to confidentially review data for accuracy before the data is published. Hospitals have until Oct. 24 to verify their scores.
