To bestow awards to the top 5% and 10% hospitals in the U.S., Healthgrades used Medicare Provider Analysis and Review data to evaluate outcomes at about 4,500 hospitals for 31 common procedures and conditions.
If all hospitals performed as well as the awardees, up to 215,667 lives could have been saved and 149,521 complications avoided between 2020 and 2022, Healthgrades said in an Oct. 24 news release.
