The American Diabetes Association and The Leapfrog Group have recognized 36 hospitals as leaders in providing high-quality care to patients with diabetes.
The organizations used the ADA’s standards of care in diabetes and Leapfrog’s standards for excellence in quality and safety to determine which hospitals earned the designation. Hospitals on the list provide comprehensive care for patients living with diabetes, such as specialized surgery preparation, blood glucose testing, meals and insulin regimen planning, and comprehensive discharge planning, according to a news release.
About 30% of all patients hospitalized in the U.S. are living with diabetes, placing them at higher risk of preventable complications, such as comas and amputations. The award is now in its second year, recognizing 36 hospitals in 12 states. Last year, only 17 hospitals received the designation.
