For the rankings, 43 experts — including physicians, registered dietitian nutritionists, nutritional epidemiologists and weight-loss researchers — examined 30 diets for nutritional completeness, health risks and benefits, long-term sustainability and evidence-based effectiveness. They also examined each diet’s strengths and weaknesses and the goals each diet might be most effective at addressing.
