West Virginia topped WalletHub’s 2026 ranking of the most overweight and obese states in the U.S., published Nov. 3, while Colorado ranked least overweight and obese.

The personal finance website compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across three dimensions: obesity and overweight prevalence, health consequences, and food and fitness.

WalletHub evaluated these dimensions using 31 metrics, ranging from the share of obese and overweight residents to obesity-related healthcare costs. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with 100 representing the most overweight state. Each state and the District’s overall score was then calculated using the weighted average across all metrics.
