South Dakota is the state where Americans work the hardest, according to an analysis published Aug. 24 by WalletHub.
The personal finance company compared the 50 states across two key dimensions: Direct work factors and indirect work factors.
WalletHub evaluated those dimensions using 10 metrics, ranging from average workweek hours to average leisure time spent per day. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with the highest score representing the “hardest-working.” Each state’s weighted average across all metrics was used to calculate its overall score and rank-order the states. Data was collected as of July 27 from the U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. Travel Association, Gallup, the Annie E. Casey Foundation and AmeriCorps.
