He joined the Nashville, Tenn.-based system in 1975, where he served as chief, but was also the director of the radiology residency program for 20 years, according to a Feb. 5 system news release.
Dr. Heller also had a longtime career outside of human medicine. In 1981, he began serving as the honorary Danish Consul for Tennessee, an office he would hold for more than 30 years. For this service, he was honored by Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II as a Knight 1st Class, Order of the Dannebrog. He also worked as a radiologist for the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., where he completed imaging studies on zoo animals.
Dr. Heller is survived by his wife, two children and four grandchildren.
