Vermont Awards State Employee Contract to Blue Cross

Vermont has awarded Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont the contract for administering the state's employee medical plan, according to a news release from Gov. Peter Shumlin's office.

Blue Cross will replace Cigna as Vermont's employee health plan administrator. The state has also decided to continue contracting with pharmacy benefit manager Express Scripts in St. Louis and Concord, N.H.-based insurer Northwest Delta Dental for pharmacy and dental coverage.

There are more than 23,000 employees, retirees and dependents covered by the state's health plan. Blue Cross will maintain the current benefit structure and additionally implement a wellness program.
