CMS Updates Best Practice Checklist for ICD-10

CMS has updated its ICD-10 end-to-end testing project checklist for providers to file with CMS to show they have completed testing with trading partners.

CMS contracted a firm to develop a process for end-to-end testing of the "administrative simplification requirements" based on feedback from the healthcare industry. CMS said it hoped the developed process will eventually be used for all administrative simplification requirements but will pilot it with ICD-10.

"Testing is essential to ensure…the uninterrupted flow of transactions with trading partners," according to a CMS report. "Given the number of new requirements that [HIPAA-covered] entities will need to implement in the coming years, a process and tool to perform end-to-end testing is needed to aid the industry in meeting the compliance dates."
