Brookdale Hospital in New York Owes $6.4M in Unpaid Water Bills

Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., is continuing to seep under water financially, in more than one way, as the hospital is one of the biggest water bill debtors in the city, according to a New York Daily News report.

According to New York City's Department of Environmental Protection, Brookdale owes $6.4 million in unpaid water bills, which date back to 2006. A hospital spokesperson told the Daily News that Brookdale's new leadership group is looking at ways "to restore financial stability" in general.

Brookdale has been close to filing for bankruptcy for the past several years, and according to the report, it may declare within the next several months. Brookdale and Maimonides Medical Center, also based in Brooklyn, entered exploratory discussions for a possible affiliation in January.
