Mr. Squire launched his Democratic campaign Aug. 29 and is the first to officially announce his run. He said his work as a hospital emergency room nurse allows him to “see the human consequences of any failure of the government to act up in Richmond and Washington.”
Mr. Squire ran for the House of Delegates in 2017 but lost to Republican Rob Bell. He was working at Charlottesville, Va.-based Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital at the time, when dozens of patients came to the ER with injuries after white supremacists and counterprotesters clashed in Charlottesville. Mr. Squire said the Charlottesville attack influenced his decision to run for office.
