US measles cases hit 170; new outbreak in Washington

Through Feb. 27, 170 people in 17 states and Washington, D.C., have developed measles, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, up from 154 reported cases through Feb. 20.

Most of the cases (125 of them) are tied to the Disneyland measles outbreak, but there are three other nonrelated outbreaks occurring in Illinois, Nevada and Washington. Monday was the first time the CDC reported an outbreak in Washington.

California is the state with the most active measles cases, with 113. Illinois has 15, Nevada has eight and Washington has seven.

The majority of people who get measles are unvaccinated, according to the CDC. See the states with the worst measles vaccination rates here.
