Team of Kentucky nurses deployed to aid Hurricane Dorian victims

A team of about 10 registered nurses and administrative staff members from Kentucky traveled to North Carolina on Sept. 4 to help care for victims of Hurricane Dorian, according to Kentucky Today.

The Kentucky Department of Public Health coordinated the effort with other local, state and federal officials. The so-called "strike team" will work for about two weeks in local shelters housing people displaced by the hurricane.

The nurses will specifically provide care for patients in medical needs shelters, conducting physical exams and patient assessments, administering medication and providing general nursing care.

The nurses' deployment marks the third consecutive September in which Kentucky nurses have been sent to other states to augment hurricane relief.
