HIS’ guidelines include facilities specifications that could improve infection control. For instance, the guidelines recommend ceilings be made from non-porous material that can be easily cleaned. Other recommendations include the following:
• Suspended ceilings should not be installed in new facilities.
• Floors should be easily cleaned and disinfected, according to local policies, and be durable and strong enough to support the machinery that will be necessary in some operative facilities.
• Taps or faucets should be hands-free.
• Disposable towels should be used.
The guidelines also cover ventilation, lighting, electrical services, storage, employee infection control practices, training/education, auditing and more.
