A survey taken before the study, both of which were conducted at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, found pressure ulcer rates of at least 10 percent, two times as high as previously thought to occur in pediatric patients.
Cincinnati Children’s created a research team to investigate the source of the problem and discovered that pediatric pressure ulcers are mostly caused by medical devices, unlike in adults, who suffer from pressure ulcers that occur when bony parts of the body remain in contact with a surface for a long period of time.
