Study: CRE-Positive Patients Retain Organism 1 Year Post-Discharge

The organism carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae did not leave CRE-positive patients until more than one year after hospital discharge, according to a study published in the American Journal of Infection Control and reported by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology.

Researchers studied 97 CRE-positive patients who were discharged from the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, Israel, between January 2009 and December 2010.
