Patients who self-administer parenteral antimicrobial therapy via catheters, known as outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy, are at risk from numerous catheter-based complications, such as central line-associated bloodstream infection and adverse drug events.

Dr. Keller’s research will focus on studying why these complications occur and how to prevent them by examining how patients and their caregivers actually perform the therapy.

The funding is part of SHEA’s Epi Project Competition. Dr. Keller will receive up to $20,000.
