The resolution was initiated by The Arnold P. Gold Foundation and sponsored by U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg to raise awareness of the importance of compassionate relationships in healing patients. “The day is an opportunity for all healthcare professionals and patients to draw attention to the importance of attitudes that are sensitive to the values, autonomy, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of patients and their families,” according to the news release.
