Rhode Island stops Ebola monitoring program

Now that the West African nation of Guinea is Ebola-free, Rhode Island has stopped monitoring arrivals from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone for the virus, according to the Providence Journal.

The Rhode Island Department of Health had been monitoring passengers from those three nations since October 2014, watching a total of 265 people for 21 days each, according to the report.

Liberia and Sierra Leone were declared Ebola-free earlier this year, and Rhode Island had ceased monitoring arrivals from those nations at that time. Now, the program has ended completely after the announcement from the World Health Organization earlier this week that Ebola is gone in Guinea.
