The conversion to MD-Cu29 antimicrobial copper, which kills 99.9 percent of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, E-coli and other bacteria within two hours, cost Pullman Regional $7,000. The surface continues to kill 99 percent of bacteria even after repeated contaminations.
MD-Cu29 is the first EPA-registered antimicrobial solid touch surface, according to a news release.
