For the analysis, CDC researchers examined adult vaccination rates through May 22.

Four findings:

1. Nationwide, 57 percent of adults had received at least one vaccine dose by May 22.

2. Adults ages 65 and over had the highest vaccination coverage at 80 percent, while people ages 18-29 had the lowest at 38.3 percent.

3. Weekly vaccination rates slowed from April 19 to May 22 after eligibility opened to all adults.

4. The percentage of young adults who got vaccinated each week fell from 3.6 percent in April to 1.9 percent a week in May.

“If the current rate of vaccination continues through August, coverage among young adults will remain substantially lower than among older adults,” the CDC said.
