University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers (Ann Arbor). U-M Hospitals and Health Center’s Environmental Stewardship Steering Committee and its subcommittees oversee the organization’s sustainability efforts. As part of its commitment to the environment, the system requires all new buildings, additions and construction projects with a budget of more than $10 million to meet LEED Silver level of certification. For instance, its C.S. Mott Children’s and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital earned LEED Silver certification, boasting features like a green roof, occupancy sensors in patient rooms and HEPA filters in nearly all areas of the building to improve air quality. U-M Hospitals and Health Centers is committed to all six Healthier Hospitals Initiative Challenges, and earned a Greenhealth Partner for Change Award from Practice Greenhealth this year.
