University of Maryland Medical Center (Baltimore). UMMC’s Green Team formed in 2007 to help the hospital reduce environmental risks, promote the welfare and health of the environment and to take responsibility in promoting conservation and environmental stewardship. The hospital’s commitment to the environment hasn’t waned in the following years — UMMC was awarded LEED Gold certification for its Shock Trauma Critical Care Tower in 2015. In addition to its structure, UMMC has multiple sustainability programs in place, especially in the OR: The hospital has received a Greening the OR Circle Award from Practice Greenhealth each year since 2013, including this year.
