Somerville, Mass.-based Mass General Brigham has entered into a scientific agreement with Evansville, Ind.-based Mead Johnson Nutrition, an infant nutrition company.
Four things to know:
1. The agreement went into effect Jan. 1 and will support research across the lifespan, including infant nutrition and related clinical studies, according to an April 15 joint news release shared with Becker’s. It represents a five-year commitment to increased funding from Mead Johnson Nutrition.
2. Initial projects focus on human milk composition and the nutritional needs of premature and vulnerable infants, including those with cow’s milk protein allergy. Additional work includes studying the infant gut microbiome, including research using intestinal organoids, or “mini-guts,” and applying AI to nutrition research.
3. The collaboration brings together Mass General Brigham investigators and Mead Johnson Nutrition researchers with expertise in pediatric gastroenterology, nutrition and AI.
4. The expanded program builds on more than 120 years of research and development in infant nutrition and will support scientists, clinicians and research staff involved in the initiative.
