The report, Hard Times in the Heartland: Health Care in Rural America, found that the nearly 50 million people living in rural America face challenges accessing healthcare.
The report also found that nearly one in five of the uninsured live in rural America and that rural Americans pay on average for 40 percent of their healthcare costs out of pocket, compared with urban residents, who pay only one-third out of pocket.
