The grants will be used to help to establish new health service delivery sites to care for an additional 286,000 patients, according to an HHS release.
Eligible applicants included public or nonprofit private entities, including tribal, faith-based and community-based organizations that met health center funding requirements.
“We are making an investment in the health of people and the health of our communities,” HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said in a statement. “These awards demonstrate a commitment to improving and expanding access to quality healthcare for local communities. We are removing barriers that stand in the way of affordable and accessible primary health services.”
